Costa Mesa Donald Dungan Library

Location: Costa Mesa, California
Architect:  Johnson Favaro

Photography:   Eric Laignel

The two-story 30,000 square foot library is the main feature of a redeveloped community square that includes the expansive Lions Park outdoor gathering space and the redevelopment of the old library into a community center.  The architecture pays homage to mid-century modernism that was in vogue as cities such as Costa Mesa developed with a blend of early California architecture that is both gracious and new.   The lighting is designed to express the stunning architectural form and facilitate the various functions found throughout the building including comfortable library spaces for study and reading, community meeting rooms, and teen and early childhood learning activities.
